Western Regional Climate Initiative
California is also a leading participant in a regional initiative to reduce its emissions.
In February 2007, it joined Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Washington, Oregon and British Columbia to form the Western Regional Climate Action Initiative. The partnership aims to reduce aggregate emissions 15 percent below 2005 levels by 2020. In the ensuing months, the regional participants plan to release the details for a cap-and-trade program.
