Element Markets Renewable Energy, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Element Markets, registered the first wastewater treatment facility under the U.S. EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard.

Element Markets purchases the biogas produced at the facility and sells it into the transportation sector for use as vehicle fuel, creating environmental credits under the Renewable Fuel Standard and California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS).

“This project shows the advancements that have been made in the renewable natural gas sector, and we are happy to be involved with such a great project,” Element Markets Chief Executive Officer and President Angela Schwarz said.

Element Markets registered the project under the federal renewable fuel standard program, making it the first wastewater treatment plant registered under the RFS. Element will manage the generation of and sale of any RIN credits from that program.
